CONSERVATION
Feb. 86	WGNSS Board	Queeny County Park.  The WGNSS Board opposes the
		destruction of habitat at the Park that would result from the
		construction and operation of a golf course.
Jun. 86	Lehocky, Dan	WGNSS has joined with a group of enviro groups, including the
		Sierra Club in launching an initiative petition to protect Queeny
		Park and other county parks from environmentally destructive
		development (such as a proposed golf course).
Dec. 86	Molyneaux, John	Nature the Winner!:  The initiative petition to save Queeny Park
		from development passed, but we're $15,000 in debt.  Please make
		a contribution now!

Jun. 86	Wiese, Mary C.	Phoebe (Snetsinger) is Over 5000
Sep. 86		Awards of the Missouri Native Plant Society Announced:  The
		first annual awards of the society were announced at the annual
		meeting.  Three of the awards were presented to WGNSS
		members and the fourth to a resident of the St. Louis Area.
		Awards were given to:
		The Society's highest award, the Julian A. Steyermark Award,
		went to Art Christ.  Edgar Denison received the Erna R.
		Eisendrath  Memorial Education Award; Bill Summers, also a
		WGNSS member, received the Society's Research Award. The
		fourth award went to Fred Husman of Crestwood for his actions in
		having a rare plant site declared a Missouri Natural Area.

Oct. 86	Menke, Nell	Art Christ to be Honored:  By the Missouri Botanical Garden at
		a luncheon honoring his 80th birthday.
Nov. 86		A Reminder:  Those wanting to attend Art Christ's Birthday
		luncheon on Thursday, Nov. 13, should make a reservation by
		Nov. 3.
Nov. 86		Mary Frances Goodloe celebrated her 65th birthday on Oct. 15
		by bicycling 65 miles, one mile for each day of her life!
MICELLANEOUS
Mar. 86	Hawker, Pat	Volunteers Needed:  People interested in working with
		elementary and high school students on outdoor field science
		trips to Tyson.
Mar. 86	Bogart, Maggie	Daytime volunteers are needed at the Raptor Rehabilitation and
		Propagation Project's new education facility in Lone Elk County
		Park.
Oct. 86		Dedication Trail Through Time:  The Pickle Spring Natural
		Area's "Trail Through Time", located five miles east of Farmington,
		was dedicated on Saturday, October 18.

Sept. 86		A Day on the River.  An annual celebration of Missouri's rivers
		and streams sponsored by the Missouri Dept. of Conservation,
		held at the Woodson K. Woods Wildlife Area near St. James
Oct. 86		New Botany Group Chairperson:  Dorothy Cole will replace
		Betty Nellums, who is leaving to live in Ireland for a year with
		her husband.
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Feb. 86		Mickey Scudder Scholarship Fund:  For the second year
		WGNSS is pleased to announce that the Mickey Scudder
		Scholarship will be awarded to a graduate student in
		natural history.  Applications accepted until March 1, 1886
Feb. 86		Committee for 1986 consists of Vi Hallett, Randy Korotev and
		Dave Ulmer
Feb. 86		The first Mickey Scudder Scholarship in Field Biology was
		awarded to Anthony Rossi, a graduate student at the University of
		Missouri-St. Louis.  Mr. Rossi is doing research on wasps, partly
		at the Tyson Research Center in west St. Louis County.

Jan. 86		WGNSS General Meeting, Jan. 10, 8 PM, at St. Louis County
		Library, Lindbergh and Clayton;.  Dr. Richard Huermann of
		Washington University will give a talk on Halley's Comet.
Feb. 86		WGNSS General Meeting, Feb. 14. 8 PM, at St. Louis
		County Library.  Walter Crawford of the Raptor Rehabilitation and
		Propagation Project will talk on Peregrine Falcons.
Mar. 86		WGNSS General Meeting, March 14, 8 PM, At St. Louis
		County Library.  Marshall Magner will disduss his Jordan trip
		and show slides of insects.
Sep. 86		WGNSS General Meeting, Sept. 12, 8 PM, at St. Louis
		County Library.  Al Gentry, Associate Curator, Missouri
		Botanical Garden, will present a program "Tropical Deforestation".
Oct. 86		WGNSS General Meeting, Oct. 10, 8 PM,. At St. Louis
		County Library.  (Program not given.)
Nov. 86		WGNSS General Meeting, Nov. 14, 8 PM, St. Louis County
		Library.  Speaker will be Eldridge H. Lovelace, Landscape Artist
		(Retired), who will speak on "Tower Grove Park Past, Present
		and Future".
