Jun. 57 Botany Breakfast at Rockwoods Reservation, 8 AM, Sunday, 
June 23.
Jul. 57 The Botany Breakfast was enjoyed by many members because
it did not rain.  Mrs. Bruce (Rusty) Dowling was elected Chairman
of the Botany Group for the coming year.
Sep. 57 Botany Breakfast at Rockwoods Reservation, 8 AM, Sunday, 
Sept. 22.  Polly Moore will lead the group on a botany trip after
breakfast to learn something about those pesky composites.
Nov. 57 Vogt, Charlotte Observations from a Bus Window on a trip to Pennsylvania.
Report on Botany meeting of Oct. 15, at which Robert Doerr led
a discussion on trees in winter and identification by bark.
CONSERVATION
Mar. 57 Thirty areas in Missouri have been designated as having "unique
natural values" by the Missouri Chapter of the Nature Conservancy.

Mar. 57 Members Learn About Water Ways (from Dr. Alfred Etter at
the Magner's on Jan. 11, who spoke about the need for conserving
water "west of the Pecos".)  Dr. Etter is an Ecologist with the 
Washington University Medical School and an Audubon Society 
Lecturer.

Jun. 57 A message from Mr. Carl O. Gustafson, Secy., Council of 
Conservation, Inc., says that the only way to reinforce our Echo
Lake victory is to make the Dinosaur National Monument a National
Park.
Jul. 57 There has been discussion at recent meetings on how to preserve
"Bean-shooters Gulch".  Bring your suggestions to the next 
meeting in the fall.
ENTOMOLOGY
Apr. 57 Moore, G. E. Insect Migration - Challenges current thoughts about the migration
of butterflies, including sulfurs and monarchs.
Nov. 57 Vogt, Charlotte Observed hundreds of butterflies gathering in the little park 
across the street at dusk on Oct. 24.  It seemed like a fairy land.
GEOLOGY
May. 57 The Botany Meeting held at the Palm home on Feb. 29 dealt
with the geology of the Grand, Brice and Zion Canyons.  Pictures
taken by Mr. Palm were shown.  Mr.Palm pointed out the various
rock strata.

Springs, Mo.  Sunday, Dec. 29, 7:45 AM.  Meet at the main gate,
Hwy. 94 just west of Hwy. 40.  Participants will divide into groups
and be assigned areas.  The lodge will be open at noon for eating
lunch.

Feb. 57 Pamela Whittington Palm was born on Dec. 20, daughter of 
Mr. & Mrs. Hugh William Palm and granddaughter of Mr. & Mrs. 
Waldemar Palm
Feb. 57 Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Leiser were married on Dec. 26 and are making
their home in Mehlville. Mrs. Leiser was Miss Anita Saussele.
Feb. 57 Our President, Mr. Rex Conyers, attended the Science Convention
in New York during the Christmas Holidays.  He was among those
nominated for Vice President of the American Nature Study 
Society, the National Association of Biology Teachers, and the
National Association of Science Teachers.
Mr. Dick Grossenheider was the  guest of the St. Louis Audubon
Feb. 57 Society on their program "Adventure at Your Door" on KETC
Channel 9, on Jan. 21st.

Jul. 57 Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Eugene Wilhelm, Jr., married
  June 8, 1957.  Mrs. Wilhelm was Miss Diane Zior before her 
marriage.
Jul. 57 Robert Hill is up and about again after an accident in which he 
broke both heels.   He's ready for birding on foot again.
Jul. 57 Miss Beulah Bedell has returned home from the hospital after an
operation and is doing well.

Jackson, who were married Saturday, Aug. 10, at Washington, 
Mo.  Mrs. Jackson was Miss Betty Duncan of Washington, Mo.  
Mr. Jackson is with the Educational Department of the Missouri
Conservation Commission.
Sep. 57 Father Link, well known Naturalist of Illinois, and friend of many 
St. Louisians visited on the week-end of  Sept. 24 with the 
Waldemar Palms, where he had a chance to renew old friendships.
Nov. 57 Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Richard Anderson on the birth of a 
son, Douglas Richard, on Oct. 1.
Nov. 57 Arthur Bennett, a former St. Louisian and still a member of WGNSS,
is now working for the National Park service and will be working at
construction sites for them.  He expects to be at the Grand Canyon
for a few months.
Nov. 57 George Toussaint has joned the Marines and is now in training in
California.
Nov. 57 Lester Newman, an active birder in the society, will be returning 
soon from overseas service.

showed several films which are being used in the grade schools to
inerest children in nature study.  "It was one of the usual happy
WGNSS meetings which is one of the things that makes it so nice

Jun. 57 Report on the May 10 General Meeting.  President Wason told us
how the National Park Service is trying to meet the needs of visitors
to the Parks through a program called Operation 66".

Jul. 57 The General Meeting and Picnic supper at the Massie's on June 14
had to be moved indoors because of a thunderstorm.  Miss 
Golterman's film, "Gray Gull, the Hunter", the story of bird life 
on an island in the Baltic, was well liked.
