Jan. 55 The January General and Botany Group meetings have been

Feb. 55 An Indian Legend - How the Trailing Arbutus came to be.
Mar. 55 Twenty-four adults and numerous children attended the Feb. 
Botany Group meeting.  Arthur Christ brought mounted specimens
of most of the wild flowers blooming in March and April and talked
about flower identification.  Because of the interest generated, the
list of plants by Oscar Petersen for the April 1948 issue of Nature
Notes is republished in this issue.

May. 55 Hath, Earl Let's Save Bean Shooter's Gulch - Theatened by developers, a 
syndicate of local residents has been formed to save it.  WGNSS
help requested.

Jan. 55 Yours for a Song - At the January meeting of the Ornithology 
group the National Audubon Society prize winning film "Yours for
a Song" will tell you how to develop a garden bird sanctuary.  All
wishing to improve their backyard birding should see this film.

flight by a male hummingbird at Weldon during July.
Oct. 55 Jordan, Charles N. Some Observations - Of a red tailed hawk making an aerial transfer
of something (likely a rabbit) to its mate while in flight; observation
of a brilliant meteor.
Oct. 55 Unique Bird Protection - Wooden kingbird decoys perched on 
Otter Tail Power Company lines scare away the hawks and crows
that cause short circuit problems.

PEOPLE
Feb. 55 Mrs. H. L. Krebs, a member of long standing, is in the Missouri
Pacific Hospital.  She needs blood transfusions.  If any one is 
going to donate blood in the near future, we suggest you designate
it for her use.

May. 55 Mrs. Max Schwarz died on March 31 after a long illness.  Her love
of all things in nature has endeared her to us.
May. 55 Clara and Grant Kierstead are the proud parents of Charles
Clifford, born at Deaconess Hospital on April 9.
Jun. 55 Dr. and Mrs. Elisha Atkins are leaving for Yale and are honored 
by breakfast with Botany and Ornithology Groups at Rockwoods 
on Sunday, June 19.

Bacon Ave., Webster Groves.  Marshall Magner will speak on the
subject:  "Insects in Relation to Man".
Feb. 55 WGNSS General Meeting, 8 PM, Friday, Feb. 11, at the home of
Mr. & Mrs. Joel Massie, 6 Indian Hill, Ladue, Mo.  Dick Wason, a 
Ranger Naturalist in Yosemite National Park during the summer,
will present "Sequoia Sojourn" with slides.
Feb. 55 Monthly Census at Weldon Springs. Meet at the main gate as
8 AM.  The regular routes will be covered.
Mar. 55 The General Meeting for this month will not be held so that 
members may join with the Academy of Science at Brown Hall,
Washington University to attend their scheduled illustrated 
lecture by Captain Ronne on the "Antarctic Conquest."  This 
meeting will be held on Friday, March 13, at 8 PM.
Apr. 55 Annual Meeting, 8 PM, Friday April 8, at the home of Mr. & Mrs.
Joel Massie, 6 Indian Hill, Ladue.  Election of officers and annual
reports of officers and group chairmen.  Thomas Hornbein,
Mountaineer, National Park Service Ranger, and Ranger-
Naturalist in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, will speak
on "The Mountain Way", with color slide illustrations.
Apr. 55 Monthly Census at Weldon Springs.  Sunday, April 10.  Meet at 
the main gate at 8 AM.  The regular routes will be covered.
Apr. 55 Picnic Supper at Weldon.  Bruce and Rusty Dowling will barbecue
hamburgers and wieners.  Every one is to bring a covered dish.
After supper we'll listen to the Frog Symphony; the house is on the
Busch Refuge.
May. 55 Monthly Census at Weldon Springs, Sunday, May 8.  Meet at
the main gate at 8 AM.  This is the height of the spring migration;.    
May. 55 General Field Trip to Cuivre River State Park, Sat. and Sunday,
May 21 and 22.  We will camp at Frenchman's Bluff.
Jun. 55   WGNSS General Meeting, 6 PM, Friday, June 10, Annual Schools
Out picnic supper at Fogerty Park adjoining the Rex Conyers home
at 1541 82nd St., University City.  
Jun. 55 Monthly Census, a Weldon Springs, Sunday, June 12.  Meet at 
the main gate at 8 AM.  Regular routes will be covered.  Julian
Neill will welcome botanist to help set up botany trails.
Jul-Aug.55 Monthly Census, at Weldon Springs.  Meet at the main gate at
8 AM.  The shorebirds return this month.
Sep. 55 State Audubon Meeting, Oct. 8 - 9 at Camp Clover Point, Lake of
the Ozarks State Park.  Jim Jackson in charge of program.
Sep. 55 WGNSS General Meeting, 6:30 PM, Friday, Sept. 8, at the home of
Mr. & Mrs. Waldemar Palm, Quinette Rd., Kirkwood.  Annual fall
picnic supper.  Coffee will be served.  Come and share you vacation
adventures with us.
Sep. 55 Monthly Census at Weldon Springs, Sunday, Sept. 11.  Meet at
the main gate at 8 AM.  The regular routes will be covered.
WGNSS General Meeting, 8 PM, Friday, Oct. 14, at the home of

Stuart O'Byrne and Edwin Friton as co-leaders.

an entomology walk will be led by Rex Conyers to interest the
younger group; this will start at the spring at 1 PM.

will be the speaker; subject to be announced.
